Making
your VBC experience the best it can be requires some guidelines.
Below are some "Do's & Don'ts" to keep in mind:
DO:
-
Have a
private, safe location for counseling. Pick a
place where your confidentiality can be assured
-
Limit
distractions. Turn off your home/cell phone, have a
neighbor watch your kids, put a "do not disturb" note on
your front door...whatever it takes to keep your counseling
session uninterrupted
-
Be
comfortable! Sit in your favorite chair and wear your
most relaxing, appropriate clothes
-
Use the
restroom and get something to drink, if needed, prior to the
start of your video session
-
Be on
time for each session! Also, be sure to contact your
video counselor 24 hours in advance if you need to
cancel a session
DON'T:
-
Be
afraid to ask questions! The only way you will learn
and grow through this process is to ask when you don't know
an answer or if something is confusing
-
Don't
think of VBC as "less than" traditional counseling.
Like traditional counseling, VBC takes full commitment from
the client. You as a client have certain
rights and responsibilities
-
Don't assume
that because VBC is free that you won't receive the quality
and professional counseling you deserve. VBC is free
so that EVERYONE can receive counseling that truly
needs it without price being a factor in the decision to
seek help.
